Sydney Lancaster & Marian Switzer
Aspen Gallery, Boyle Street Plaza, 9538-103a Ave
Carried is a sculptural installation featuring gel transfer prints of images from the now- demolished York Hotel, in combination with historical and community-supplied images and ephemera relating to the hotel’s history. At first glance, the installation resembles hundreds of pieces of paper being tossed by the wind; on closer examination, the sculpture reveals scattered fragments of the social and personal narratives that have informed the hotel’s history as part of the Boyle Street community since 1913.
